About the Department

The department of English was established in 1998, the year of opening of the college. It engages classes at UG and PG level. Dr. Bramhadutta Pandey, the former principal of the college, explored his knowledge and experience. The foundation that laid down by him blossomed the department. His invisible hands are still behind the achievements of the department. Dr. Smt. Pathak had briefly served the department. The department is marching ahead under the successful leadership of Dr. Subodhkumar Singh, the Principal of the college at present.

Academic

1. B. A.

The programme of B. A. consists of six semesters. Compulsory English and English Literature are subjects that are taught under the department. CBCS pattern is implemented by the university for B. A. since the academic year 2017-18.

Compulsory English: It is the compulsory subject for all the six semesters. So the students have to study one course in each semester. It is compulsory for the students to pass in the subject to earn the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Classes of theory and tutorials are engaged by the department.

English Literature: It is the optional subject for all the six semesters. The students have to study one course each semester. It is compulsory for those students who have elected it to pass in the subject to earn the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Classes of theory are engaged by the department.

2. B. Com.

The programme of B. Com. consists of six semesters. Compulsory English is a subject for first four semesters that is taught in the department. So the students have to study for one course each semester. It is compulsory for the students to pass in the subject to earn the degree of Bachelor of Commerce. Classes of theory and tutorials are engaged by the department.

CBCS pattern is implemented by the university for B. Com. since the academic year 2017-18.

3. B. Sc.

From 2021, the Programme of B Sc is a new addition to the academic wing of the college. It consists of six semesters with CBCS Courses. However, Compulsory English is a subject taught for first two semesters only. It is mandatory for the students to pass in the subject to earn the degree of Bachelor of Science. Classes of theory and tutorials are engaged by the department.

4. M.A. (English)

The programme of M. A. (CBCS) consists of four semesters, i.e., two-year programme. Students have to study one foundation course, one core course and two optional courses per semester. It is compulsory for the students to pass in all the subjects to earn the degree of Master of Arts. Classes of theory are engaged by the department.


Classes are engaged as Scheduled in the Time-Table.

Certificate Courses are run as per the demand from the students.

Research Centre

Recently our college got permission from Gondwana University, Gadchiroli to provide students with an opportunity in research and specialized studies in English. It helps the amateurs to cultivate and dive deep in the area of their literary and linguistic interest. Dr. S. K. Singh, Dr S. N. Puri and Dr A. L. Pandhare are supervisors associated with the centre.

Examination Scheme

The pattern of assessment is split between the college/internal assessment and university assessment. The university assessment is for 80 marks. The university undertakes theory examination for it. The internal assessment is for 20 Marks. Two class/unit tests, assignments, oral/presentation, attendance and student’s behaviour are the criteria for internal assessment.

Tentative Examination schedule is published in the academic calendar of each year.

Supervisor: Dr. Subodhkumar Sing is the recognized Supervisor in English of Gondwana University, Gadchiroli (MS).

Supervisor: Dr Shrikant Puri is a recognized Supervisor in English of Gondwana University, Gadchiroli (MS).

Ph. D.: Dr. Subodhkumar Singh has pursued his Ph. D. in English from Nepal University, Kathmandu (Nepal).

Ph. D.: Dr S. N. Puri has pursued his Ph. D. from S.R.T.M. University, Nanded on “English Language Acquisition of Learners at Secondary, Higher Secondary and Under-Graduate Level in Tribal Communities in Chandrapur District”

M. Phil.: Dr. Shrikant N. Puri has pursued his M. Phil. from Madurai University, Madurai (TN) in “The Theme of Social Injustice in the Selected Plays of John Galsworthy”.
